Goals and Objectives
Raleigh-Wake County AARP Chapter #3689 is a membership organization for active adults ages 50+ representing AARP at the local level. We believe strongly in the motto, "To serve, not to be served". Our members come primarily from communities within northern Wake County but members are welcome from anywhere in the RTP area. We provide a link between members, communities, and the national organization's programs and services. Our chapter's leadership and commitment to volunteerism is an invaluable resource in strengthening the AARP organization and making our communities better places to live and work for all. We offer an extensive program involving community outreach, advocacy, volunteerism and a number of social and recreational activities.
- Community Service - Create and enhance opportunities for members to be involved in activities that address a myriad of community needs. We donate/contribute on a rotating monthly basis to the following charities: Healing Transitions, Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen, Urban Ministries, Loaves and Fishes, and the Helen Wright Center for Women. We also have several Service Day opportunities for members to get involved in the community.
- Education - Impart knowledge that is useful to members and the community through programming and guest speakers.
- Communication - Facilitate the exchange of information between members and the national organization.
- Recruitment - Increase chapter membership, ensuring continued growth with greater member diversity.
- Fellowship - Conduct activities in a manner that fosters congeniality and friendship.
- Advocacy - Participate actively in addressing issues that have an impact on members and the community in accordance with AARP's policies, practices, and positions.
- Leadership - Develop members' skills and potential to assume positions of increasing responsibility within the chapter, the community, and the organization.
